How fresh lifestyle photography can boost your brand.
A lot of our clients worry about what to wear for your personal brand photoshoot so we’ve come up with some handy hints to help you figure out your best options. Your personal brand photography shoot is an essential step in showcasing your business and personality. The right attire can make all the difference in how you are perceived by potential clients and customers, so it’s worth taking your time pre-shoot to consider what outfits might suit.
I’ve been a photographer and stylist for over 15 years, working in New York and London, so when it comes to our personal brand photoshoots, you can rest assured we’ve definitely got your back when it comes to giving you the right advice. Here are some tips to get you started on what to wear for your personal brand photoshoot to help you look not only authentic, but also professional, confident and relatable.
First up, you need to be considering your brand vibe. These days, in order to best portray your brand, you need to think about reflecting your brand identity. Choosing outfits that align with your brand’s colours and overall aesthetic are a fab way to nail this.
If your brand is bold and modern, opt for trendy outfits in vibrant shades. For more of a classic or minimalist brand, think neutral tones or elegant silhouettes for a better fit. Remember, your clothing should embody the essence of your business, so keep this in the back of your mind when you’re coming up with outfit options for your shoot.
Next, let’s talk dressing for comfort. While looking professional and in keeping with your brand is important, comfort plays a crucial rule too. There’s nothing worse than feeling lacklustre and self conscious in front of the lens if you are wearing ill-fitting clothes. Choose clothes that fit well and allow you to move freely for your shoot.
Whilst comfort is key, try to keep to a form-fitting silhouette and avoid super baggy outfits so that the camera can show you off at your best. Often we suggest people include a simple white shirt and jeans for their outfit choices as it’s a classic look that everyone suits and has a certain relatable feel to it.
Layering up is always a neat way to add versatility to your look, allowing you to change your appearance without a complete outfit change. This works really well if you need some images that have a slightly more corporate feel. Consider an on-trend jacket or a scarf that can add depth and texture to your images.
When it comes to texture – try to avoid over bulky items like chunky knits, faux furs or quilted jackets, lest they add unnecessary volume to your look.
In the same vein, steer clear of large bold prints and stripes, as prints can overwhelm your silhouette and stripes can add width and mass to your body shape.
Be sure to accessorise wisely. Accessories can enhance your outfit, but be mindful not to overdo it. Aim for one or two statement pieces that complement your look without distracting from your face. Simple jewellery, like a nice watch or delicate earrings, can add polish.
If accessorising is not your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that we love to use props that relate to your industry as accessories on our shoots. We take our time to research your brand and industry niche prior to shoot day and then are able to style up our shoots to ensure that our props are bang on target to deliver those images with elevated authenticity that we are renowned for.
Often people worry about what shoes to wear for a photo shoot. Our advice is opt for a pair that are clean and in good condition and fits the style of your outfit. That could mean anything from flats to boots, or heels to sneakers – just ensure they work with the rest of your look.
Having said that, we often suggest not wearing any shoes during our shoots. The whole barefoot look has a sort of natural elegance and helps you look way more approachable in the images we deliver you.
Remember these simple rules and you can ensure your photoshoot will effectively represent you and your business.
